Narrative view provide information such as context, explanatory text, or extended descriptions along with column values for an analysis. Values from attribute, hierarchical, and measure can also be included. To add hierarchy level in a Narrative view, use selection steps to display the levels. The Narrative view is a combination of text and query column values.
Normally, Title view is used to dynamically change report title text based on the selected prompt. Title view can only apply on Variable prompt with @{Variable} format.
On this example, Narrative view will be used on report title to retrieve Session variable on the selected prompt “UOM”.
- To begin, create analysis in Criteria tab
.
- In the compound layout, click on add view and select Narrative
- The Narrative editor have the following sections:
- Prefix box to enter the header. This is displayed at the beginning of the Narrative.
- Narrative box to enter narrative text that will appear for each row in the results. Both text and column values can be included. HTML code is used here.
- To include column values, use the “@” sign to indicate the column. The “@” sign is used to include the results from the designated column in the narrative.
- Row Separator box to enter number times to display the Narrative field that contains value.
- Postfix box to enter footer that appear at the end of Narrative.
On the example @1 represents the first column in the Criteria tab. If multiple column values is included in the narrative, then the order should follow the column on the criteria tab @column
